DIRECTING
My love for directing began in my high school years at Roundabout Theatre’s Youth Ensemble. I spent my evenings at the beloved 46th street theatre where fellow high school artists and myself would work on acting technique and student written work. It was here that I grew my love for directing as I began to see how a singular note could change the whole trajectory of a performance. Flash forward to my undergrad, I worked as the assistant director on First Daughter Suite, my first full length production. It was here that I realized that not only do I like to lead others, but I am good at it! I was able to create an encouraging, gracious and powerful space with my fellow actors. Beyond the blocking and acting notes, I enjoyed leading peers through movement and breath exercises where we connected body to breath. Our ensemble collaborated in a way that was inspiring to be a part of and through that experience, I knew I wanted to continue directing.
INTIMACY DIRECTION
Throughout my undergrad, I had the privilege of learning from the best about how the industry is changing, and what we can do about it. Specifically, I learned about our school’s commitment to Theatrical Intimacy Education. Learning about TIE informed my work throughout college and inspired me to become an intimacy director myself. It had become so crucial to me to adapt TIE practices in my own rehearsal rooms as well as use it as the standard for myself as an actor. It has become a wonderful part of my undergraduate experience to work on peer directed productions as a theatrical intimacy director. TIE has helped me create consent based spaces for myself and my fellow artists. My recent works with TIE include being an intimacy director for Marymount Manhattan’s recent productions of The Wolves, Pillowman, and Midsummer Night’s Dream.
